RUSSELL & BROMLEY X LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION BA (HONS) CORDWAINERS FOOTWEAR

This spring, we’re championing emerging young talent by partnering up with footwear students at London College of Fashion, UAL, (LCF) on a project.

Last week, we visited LCF’s brand-new state-of-the-art campus at East Bank on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to announce the student winner and runners up of our Russell & Bromley x LCF BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear brief. The project tasked rising young designers to dream up a new collection for Russell & Bromley Autumn 2024. The judging panel were so impressed with the quality of work, creativity, and imagination of the final designs.

As the winner of the student project, Myla Pott has received a 3-month, multi-departmental internship with Russell & Bromley at their head office and a cash prize. The judging panel felt her designs responded really well to all aspects of the project brief, were incredibly creative and captured the essence of the brand.

Alongside the overall winner, the judging panel selected two runners up, Yevheniia Mizevych and Eunhye Shin, who we also wanted to give special recognition to for their creative designs and outstanding work.

At last week’s student project announcement, we caught up with winner, Myla, to discuss her experience…

What did you enjoy most about this Russell & Bromley x LCF Cordwainers student project?

I really loved going to see the Russell & Bromley archive as part of our research for the project. We were given exclusive access to their archive and as someone who is obsessed with vintage fashion, in particular vintage fashion photography, I found looking through all the magazine cuttings super inspiring and helpful in grounding my collection in the brand’s history.

I also absolutely loved working alongside my course mates and seeing how everyone interpreted the brief and put their own personalities into their shoes - everyone produced such amazing outcomes.

What skills/experience will you take from this project into your future work?

I have really learned about how important it is to add that little bit of extra detail and writing to communicate my ideas, especially when creating work for a client’s brief. It seems that people really appreciate that extra effort, so I will try to continue going that extra mile for as much of my career as I can.

What are you most looking forward to in your Russell & Bromley internship?

There was a mention of being able to go on a buying trip with some of the product team which I think would be super educational for me. I’m looking forward to being able to see how an established footwear brand functions on a wider scale – this is very exciting. Oh, and if I’m allowed to get back into their archive, I’ll be happy for a good while.

Thank you to everyone involved in this Russell & Bromley x LCF BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear student project.
